Academic Blogging

Well I have finally set up my blog and I must admit that it was much easier than I thought it would be. The process itself took no more than 5 minutes to create, and 4 and a half of those minutes were spent picking the name for my blog which I have entitled "Pumping Iron". Now at first glance it may seem like this name is somewhat irrelevant to the act of academic blogging however, let me explain. The term “Pumping Iron” refers to the act of working out, or lifting weights (most notably from the movie “Pumping Iron”). However what I am doing is making a parallel between working out and writing intellectual blogs. When you think about it, they can both be approached and executed in much the same way. Before you start either one you have to have an idea of what you want to do, and you have to be mentally prepared to complete what needs to be done. You are also working or striving to achieve a certain goal. In working out your goal can be to stay healthy or to gain strength, whereas with forming your opinion and presenting it in an intellectual way (such as with blogs) you are striving to gain knowledge or in my case to receive a good grade. Either way, I approach this in the same manner. I want to push myself to get better and better, and work hard to success and to reach my goal of good grades, hence “Pumping Iron”.
